Week 4 – Dancing On Ice 2009

Sunday, 1st February 2009

This week was either going to be fun packed or very heated and I think we ended up getting a bit of both!

The judges were particularly vocal with Jason being booed by the audience during most of his comments throughout the show.

Don’t forget to tune in next week at 6:50pm on itv1 for another fantastic show!

Switch & Save – [Watch This Space]

After Christopher Dean taking a side step (Forgive the pun!) from the last few performances on the ice, he was back on form, alongside Jayne – performing elegantly on the ice.  We were particularly keen on finding out where she got hold of her gorgeous black and white dress.

1st Performance

Melinda Messenger & Fred Palascak

Avoiding the skate-off last week, unfortunately Melinda and Fred failed to impress the public enough to keep them in the competition again but the judging panel seen past that and kept them in for another week. Wearing a typical big spanish red costume, including frills, the couple performed the set routine to Los Del Rio’s ‘Macarena’ and received a moderate 16.5 out of 30 – slightly lower than last week but mainly due to their failed lift.

2nd Performance

Ray Quinn & Maria Filippov

Performing to Michael Jackon’s ‘Smooth Criminal’, partners Ray and Maria carried on showing that they have what it takes to get through to the finals, although not particularly strong choreography, the comments from the judges were fantastic and seen them score a fantastic 24 out of 30.  The couple looked very styled in black and white costumes with suit like detail.

3rd Performance

Zoe Salmon & Matt Evers

Skating to the recent pop hit ‘Hot n Cold’ by Katy Perry – Zoe wowed both the judges and audience with a great comeback, after her confidence took a knock last week and scored a high 20 out of 30.  The couple wore a combination of silver and diamoned costumes.

4th Performance

Ellery Hanley & Frankie Poultney

Completing a safe and slightly rushed performance, rugby star Ellery and partner Frankie skated to U2’s ‘With or Without You’.  The couple wore midnight dusty blue costumes with icicle detail and after missing a few basic moves, they scored 16 out of 30.

5th Performance

Coleen Nolan & Stuart Widdall

Performing to one of her own hits ‘I’m in the Mood for Dancing’ by The Nolans and scoring a respectable 16 out of 20, Coleen’s confidence is obviously on the increase and despite a few labour intensive moves, the judges thought that all round it was a good performance.  Coleen was particularly pleased to be “wearing a tootoo whilst performing to a song of her own”.

6th Performance

Michael Underwood & Melanie Lambert

Wearing lipstick patterned costumes, Michael and partner Melanie took to the ice and performed to Prince’s ‘Kiss’ (You seen that coming didn’t you?) and scored an fantastic 18.5.  The judges commented that week on week an improvement was being seen and now they needed to bring both the Michael in training and the one of the live show together.

7th Performance

Roxanne Pallett & Daniel Whiston

Dancing to Gabriella Cilmi’s ‘Sweet About Me’, Roxanne wore a daring purple costume which didn’t leave much to the imagination – something she’d reportably been asking for prior to the competition starting.  Although the judges comments were mixed, commenting on her ‘core’, the couple received an average 17 out of 30.

8th Performance

Todd Carty & Susie Lipanova

After a comical but slightly disasterous performance last week, Todd and partner Susie took to the ice performing to ‘Every Breath You Take’ by Police.  The judges commented that they couldn’t mark anything other than the moves and fell at the bottom of the board with a lowest of low 7.5 out of 20.

9th Performance

Jessica Taylor & Pavel Aubrecht

Entering the ink rink, wearing phycaldelic costumes – Jessica and her partner Pavel danced to Dee-Lite’s ‘Groove is in the Heart’ and received further criticism for her lack of emotion and connection with the audience on the ice.  However, she did score a respectful 21.5 putting her at the top end of the board.

Voted out of the show this week was Michael Underwood and partner Melanie Lambert, who narrowly missed being saved by the judges and was a shock to us too, as Michael has previous experience on the ice from last year before gaining an injury.
